Equipment Installation & Commissioning: A Practical Guide

Omnimech ·

Why Proper Installation Matters

Even the best equipment will underperform if poorly installed. Misalignment, inadequate foundations, and hasty commissioning lead to vibration, premature wear, and costly downtime.

Phase 1: Foundation Preparation

Structural Requirements

  • Jaw/cone crushers: Reinforced concrete foundation, 1.5–2× equipment weight, vibration isolation pads
  • Ball mills: Heavy-duty foundation with anchor bolts, dynamic load factor 2.5–3.0
  • Vibrating screens: Isolation springs or rubber mounts, avoid rigid connection to support structure

Key Checks

  • Foundation levelness: ≤2mm/m deviation
  • Anchor bolt positioning: Match equipment base plate within ±5mm
  • Allow minimum 28-day concrete curing before loading

Phase 2: Equipment Setting & Alignment

Crane & Rigging

  • Use certified lifting points on the equipment
  • Jaw crusher main frame: 20–50 ton capacity crane depending on model
  • Ball mill shell: Two-crane lift for mills >Ø2700mm

Alignment Standards

  • Coupling alignment: Angular misalignment ≤0.05mm/100mm, parallel offset ≤0.05mm
  • V-belt drive: Pulley alignment within ±1mm, proper belt tension
  • Gear mesh (ball mill girth gear): Backlash and contact pattern per OEM specification

Phase 3: Electrical & Lubrication

  • Motor rotation direction check before coupling connection
  • Lubrication system flush and fill per OEM oil grade and volume
  • Hydraulic system pressure test at 1.5× working pressure

Phase 4: Commissioning

No-Load Test (2–4 hours)

  • Check rotation direction, vibration, temperature, and abnormal noise
  • Vibration limit: ≤5mm/s (bearing housing) for crushers

Load Test (8–24 hours)

  • Start at 50% load, gradually increase to 100% over 4 hours
  • Monitor: bearing temperature (≤70°C), motor current, product quality
  • Record all operating parameters as baseline for future maintenance

Phase 5: Handover & Training

  • Provide as-built documentation, test reports, and spare parts list
  • Train operator and maintenance staff on daily checks, lubrication schedule, and common troubleshooting
  • Establish communication channel for technical support
